U.S. President Joe Biden has announced a fresh plan that might alarm Russia. The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of long-range missiles and rockets to Poland in a deal valued at up to $10 billion, the Pentagon said.

The sale comes as Kyiv has praised its U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) launchers for their battlefield successes. However, the United States has rebuffed Ukraine’s requests for ATACMS missiles. Poland would not be able to transfer any ATACMS to Ukraine without U.S. approval. But what’s interesting is that the mega-weapons package for Warsaw comes amid NATO’s heavy deployment in the region and an ongoing war in Poland’s backyard, Ukraine.

Remember, Poland shares a long border with Ukraine and Russia’s ally Belarus. Last month, Russia’s Vladimir Putin administration warned against a possible “global catastrophe” if western powers continued to provoke.
