After months of intense fighting, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s troops have “operationally encircled” the key strategic city of Bakhmut in Donetsk.

Tactical aviation, missile troops, and artillery of the Russian armed forces neutralised at least 84 Ukrainian military units at their firing positions. This major battlefield boost for Russia comes just a day after Putin’s army “liberated” Blahodatne, which is only 5 km away from northern Bakhmut.

For Russia, control of the city would likely lay the groundwork for a push northwest, toward the larger cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Watch this video to understand why the Russians fought so hard for this strategic city.
