Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday that a new foreign policy document adopted by President Vladimir Putin identifies the West as posing an “existential” threat to Moscow.

The 42-page document sets out changes to Russia’s view of the world – in particular its increasingly confrontational relationship with the West – that have already taken shape and have often been articulated by Putin in recent years.

Speaking at a meeting of the country’s Security Council, Lavrov said the concept was updated to reflect “revolutionary changes” in international relations since the “special military operation” began in Ukraine.
