A ballistic faceoff has erupted between Russia and the U.S. over the “NEW START” nuke deal. The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has accused Russia of violating the last remaining nuclear weapons treaty between the two countries.

The United States claims that Russia is blocking on-site inspection attempts by its officials. The Biden administration also alleges that Russian officials rejected Washington’s requests to hold a meeting to address compliance concerns over the nuclear treaty.

The allegations come just days after Russia issued the deadliest nuclear ultimatum to the United States. On January 30, Russia told the U.S. that the “NEW START” nuke deal could expire in 2026 without replacement due to “U.S. efforts to inflict strategic defeat” on Moscow.
