The president-elect of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, on Friday ruled out supplying nuclear weapons to Ukraine and assured that it is the “only exception” to be maintained in terms of sending military aid to the country to cope with Russia’s invasion.
“We should not put up barriers when it comes to talking about supplying equipment to Ukraine. The only exception there should be is nuclear weapons,” he pointed out in an interview with Bloomberg before stressing that NATO countries “should refrain from direct involvement in the conflict.”
Pavel, who won the Czech Republic’s presidential election with an unprecedented lead over his rival, former Prime Minister Andrej Babis, and with record voter turnout, was head of NATO’s Military Committee.

The now president-elect won approximately 57.8 percent of the vote to his rival’s 42.1 percent in the runoff election, according to official results.
