Against the background of the ongoing economic war, the gentlemen of the European Commission constantly brag about the fact that the EU has reduced its dependence on gas from Russia. However, as it turned out, this is not entirely true. Deliveries of Russian gas via the pipelines have indeed fallen sharply. From 105.7 billion cubic meters in the first nine months of last year to 54.2 billion cubic meters this year. However, imports of liquefied natural gas from Russia to the EU did not decrease even by 1%. Moreover, in the first nine months of 2022, the supply of Russian LNG increased by 50% year on year. Thus, in the period from January to September 2022, the EU imported 20.5 billion cubic meters of Russian LNG compared to 11.3 billion cubic meters in the same period last year. The main importers of Russian LNG are France, the Netherlands, and Spain.
